Routes: The Royal Route Retrace the historic voyage of Queen Victoria from Glasgow to Oban. Combine islands, spectacular mountain scenery, and shore excursions to places of interest. We leave Rhu on the Clyde, cruising down the Firth of Clyde to the Victorian resort of Rothesay. Progress along the magnificent Kyles of Bute narrows, and into Loch Fyne, with destination Ardrishaig and the sea lock entrance to the Crinan Canal. This 9 mile historic waterway links Loch Fyne to the Sound of Jura, negotiating 15 locks on the way, and was sailed in 1847 by Victoria aboard the barge 'Sunbeam'. Then out amongst the Inner Hebridean islands of Scarba, passing close to the great Corryvreckan whirlpool, Lunga and the Garvellachs into the Firth of Lorne. On past the low lying island of Kerrera to the resort of Oban, with its busy waterfront and many attractions. A two week cruise would enable the entire original Royal Route to Fort William and return to be enjoyed at leisure Cruise the Clyde Come on board M.V. Island Fox at Rhu and enjoy a leisurely exploration of the Firth of Clyde, with an excursion ashore at Rothesay, the capital of the Isle of Bute, to visit the Victorian winter gardens, castle and Mountstuart, home of the Marquess of Bute. Onwards, to circumnavigate 'Scotland in miniature', the Isle of Arran, with views of Ailsa Craig. There is plenty of time to run ashore to explore the varied places of interest. Progress northwards up Kilbrannan Sound, with the rugged coast of Arran to port and the gentle Kintyre peninsula to starboard, with a call in at Tarbert on Loch Fyne, maybe to enjoy a fine seafood dinner Island hop the Inner Hebrides
Join 'M.V.Island Fox' at her home port of Ardrishaig on Loch Gilp (only 80 miles by road from Glasgow, courtesy transfers can be arranged) and begin your exploration of Argyll's Atlantic islands by navigating the 15 locks of the picturesque Crinan Canal. Then choose between a southerly progression down the Sound of Jura, perhaps calling in at Craighouse on Jura to visit The Jura Distillery. On to the Isle of Islay, where a wealth of natural heritage attractions will vie for your attention, not forgetting the world famous distilleries.
