Power Boat

National Powerboat  Level 2

For companies requiring staff to fall in line with the current codes of practice the following will apply on obtaining the National Powerboat Level 2 certificate. Each candidate must have the following:-

 

  • SRC/DSC Marine Radio
  •   Sea Survival (only required if their vessel is required to carry a liferaft under the codes of practice)
  • Medical ML5/ENG 1 or equivalent
  • First Aid certificate 
  • Passport size photograph
  •   Fee £30 made payable to RYA
  • one years logged time of operating the same or similar vessel prior to applying for the commercial endorsement

 

This certificate allows skippers to operate a vessel up to 24 meters from a safe departure point up to 3 miles in day light hours only

 

Advanced Powerboat 

This qualification is suitable for vessels working commercial from a nominated departure point 20 miles out during daylight hours and during darkness. Pre Exam and qualification : Must have a minimum seatime 2 years relevant experience including night pilotage. (As a guide 30 days, 2 days as skipper, 800 miles, 12 night hours)  If you hold an RYA advanced powerboat course completion certificate the seatime is reduced to: 20 days, 2 days as skipper, 400 miles, and 12 night hours Required for exam

·                                 SRC/VHF Operators licence
·                                 Valid first aid certificate
·                                 Fee of £149.00 made payable to RYA
·                                 Fee of £74 for partial retest

Commercial Endorsement

·                                 Sea Survival certificate
·                                 Medical report ML5/ENG1
·                                 Fee £30 made payable to RYA

Motor Cruiser

Day Skipper Practical Qualification

This qualification is suitable for vessels working commercial from a nominated departure point 20 miles out during daylight hours

Must have a minimum seatime

2 years relevant experience including night pilotage. (As a guide 30 days, 2 days as skipper, 800 miles, 12 night hours)

Commercial Endorsement

  • Passport photo
  • SRC/VHF Operators licence
  • Valid First Aid certificate
  • Sea Survival certificate
  • Medical report ML5/ENG1
  • Fee £30 made payable to RYA

 

Coastal Skipper

This qualification is suitable for vessels working commercial from a nominated departure point 20 miles out during daylight hours and during the hours of darkness.

Pre Exam and qualification :

  • Must have a minimum seatime
  • 30 days living on board
  • 2 days as skipper
  • 800 miles – logged with in 10 years
  • 12 night hours

If you hold an RYA Coastal Skipper course completion certificate the seatime is reduced to: 20 days living on board, 2 days as skipper, 400 miles, 12 night hours

Required for exam

  • Aged 17 or over
  • Passport photo
  • SRC/VHF Operators licence
  • Valid first aid certificate
  • Fee £149 made payable to RYA

Commercial Endorsement

  • Sea Survival certificate
  • Medical report ML5/ENG1
  • Fee £30 made payable to RYA

Yachtmaster

The Yachtmaster offshore is competent to skipper a motor vessel on any passage during which the yacht is no more than 150 miles from harbour

There is no dedicated course for Yachtmaster however, we offer a week where candidates taking the exam at the end can hone up there established skills build up on missing time and prepare satisfactorily to take the exam at the end of their week.

They will be expected to fit in with other course attendees from day skipper and coastal skipper level. This allows them to work with novice and experienced crews developing there skipper abilities at the same time.

Pre-exam requirements

  • 18 years or over
  • SRC/VHF or above
  • A valid first aid certificate
  • Exam fee £170.00
  • Conversion £90
  • Re- exam £78
  • Commercial endorsement £30

SEATIME

  • 50 days,
  • 2500 miles

At least 5 passages over 60 miles – measured from the rhumb line from the port of departure to the destination, acting as skipper for at least two of these passages and including two which have involved in overnight passages. 5 days experience as skipper

HALF THE QUALIFYING SEATIME MUST BE DONE IN TIDAL WATERS
